Five former Gator football players and a live ‘gator (yes, a REAL one) will be the main attraction at this year’s Brevard County Gator Club Kickoff & Golf Challenge, which will take place on Sat., Aug. 18 at Duran Golf Club in Viera. There will be a free children’s golf clinic at 3:00 p.m. The nine-hole par three Golf Challenge begins at 4:00 p.m. and is followed by the Kickoff party at the clubhouse at 5:30 p.m.
“The Brevard County Gator Club Kickoff and Golf Challenge is one of our biggest events and by far the most fun,” says Brad Bowers, event chairman. “This year is the first time we have had multiple Gators play golf and attend the afterparty. We hope to make this our largest annual fundraising event!”
People of all ages are invited to attend. The event is family-friendly with something for everyone. In addition to the free golf clinic, there is a supervised, outdoor “Kids’ Fun Zone.” “Ally,” the club’s six-foot alligator mascot and “Squirt” (a real live baby alligator), will be in attendance for photo opportunities–or, as the club calls them, “snap” shots. The Brevard County Gator Club Kickoff party gets underway at 5:30 p.m. with pep rally music and a presentation of highlights from past Gator seasons. A looping slide show will preview the upcoming season and honor the Gator alumni in attendance. A “TailGator” buffet will open at 6:30 p.m.
Vendors will be on hand, selling unique items and bringing a little bit of “The Swamp” to Brevard. There will also be a silent auction, raffles and prizes for the best dressed men and women Gators.
Former Gator players Tony Rowell, Robin Fisher, Cal Dixon, Fred McCallister and Hugh Barton (and perhaps more) are scheduled to be on hand to meet and chat with fans and club members. They have also registered to play in the Golf Challenge and will sign autographs during the event.
Kelly Collazo (“Kelly Red”) from ESPN Radio’s “Play’n the Field” and Mike Lowe from Lite Rock’s 99.3 “Mike and Mindy Show” will co-host the event. Tickets for the Brevard County Gator Club Kickoff Party are $20 (members), $25 (non-members) and $15 (children under 12).

This was so much fun when I went last year! My husband and kids had such a good time and thought I am not one for sports and especially football- you get so into it! Brevard county is HAPPENING and the place to be is in Palm Bay. Great beaches and the nightlife is up there as well. Everything is a short drive away and you save a ton of money by staying there as well.
