There are no less than 108 parks in Brevard County, all of them free and fun for the whole family. Every so often, Brevard Happening profiles one of these community gems.
This week: Wickham Park, located at 2500 Parkway Drive, Melbourne.
As far as Brevard parks go, Wickham Park is kind of like our version of Central Park. Stay with me on this one. Flanked by the Brevard Community College Melbourne campus, the King Center for Performing Arts and the hustle and bustle of Wickham Road, Wickham park is almost 400 acres of pure natural getaway. Okay, maybe Wickham Park is half the size of Central Park, but at least you’re not sharing it with over 35 million visitors each year.
So, what does the largest of Brevard’s parks have to offer? From archery to volleyball, the amount of activities to choose from is a bit surprising:
-88 campsites plus 25 overflow
Lakes to swim in
Sports & Activities:
-Over 1.5 miles of roadways
Open grass fields
-Fenced, off-leach dog park
-Separate zones for large and small dogs
Equestrian center (trails, stables & show ring)
Strawberry Festival (click for 2011 review)
The list doesn’t end there, play frisbee in the fields, have a BBQ with friends, get some alone time on one of the trails, I can go on and on! But I wont, I’ll leave it there and let you use your imagination for a day of fun!
