There’s just something about “going to the fair,” isn’t there? The lights and sounds of the games and rides, the smell of the fried dough (and fried everything else), the simple and uncomplicated excitement of a place where your only responsibility is having a good time… what a great way to spend a few hours! (Especially if it’s taking place on the Space Coast in early Spring.)
This year’s Brevard County Fair will run from March 22- April 1. Admission is $10 Mon. to Thurs. and $12 on Thurs., Fri., and Sat. and unlimited rides are included.
Back by popular demand from last year is Myers International Midway rides, animal shows and the Brevard County Fair Chili Cook-Off.
While every day of this 11-day event features a variety of exciting entertainment, there are several on-going events this year including camel rides, walking bubbles, and interactive displays such as the “Milk Maker,” “Farmer for a Day,” and “There’s a Cow in my Truck,” exhibits. In addition, the fair will feature new competitive contests, including the “Art on a Rain Barrel Contest” and the “Recycled Art Contest.”
The Brevard County Fair Chili Cook-Off will be held on Sat., March 22 from 2 to 5 p.m. Fairgoers may purchase a $5 tasting ticket to sample all the chili entries and vote for their favorite. Stick around for live music all day on the fair’s two concert stages.
Sunday March 25 is what Brevard County Fair planners call Government Day, which means all government and military employees (with ID) can receive a $5 wristband (admission and unlimited rides) for themselves and up to 5 family members.
A traditional county fair, the Brevard County Fair also includes blue ribbon contests, educational displays and classes, and 4-H animal shows. The fair is held at 3845 N. Wickham Rd. in Melbourne, Fla.
