There are no less than 108 parks in Brevard County, all of them free and fun for the whole family. Every so often, Brevard Happening profiles one of these community gems.
This week: Holmes Park, located at 914 Melbourne Avenue.
There may not be a playground at Holmes Park, but that doesn’t mean there’s no place to play. In fact, Holmes Park has something no other park in Brevard County can lay claim to: a concrete manatee lagoon. (If anyone tells you to meet them at Manatee Park, now you’ll know what they mean.)
Part art installation, part play area, this feature is all charming. Kids and adults alike enjoy interacting with these adorable, beady-eyed recreations of one of the most beloved of all sea mammals. Holmes Park also features two sheltered picnic areas with chess board-topped tables (or maybe they’re for checkers).
Other perks of this park? Well, it’s walking distance from Downtown Melbourne and really close to a couple of great restaurants, the Crane Creek Tiki Taproom & Grill and El Ambia Cubano, a really great Cuban restaurant. Holmes Park is also the site of the Really Really Free Market of Melbourne and Palm Bay, which takes place from 1 p.m. to 3 p.m. on the last Sunday of every month, and is exactly what it sounds like.
Give Holmes Park a visit. You’ll be glad you did.
